A few weeks ago I dove headfirst into a different kind of Jamaican vibe – one that was colorful, creative, and even glowed in the dark! I set aside my river bumming (just for a moment, I promise!), because I stumbled upon a truly unique gem that got my creative juices flowing.
I was on the hunt for some fresh artistic inspiration. And that’s when it happened: I found The Art of Motivation. Now, this wasn’t your grandma’s art gallery, unless your grandma was seriously hip. We’re talking glow-in-the-dark art, art made with recycled materials, and even pieces you could scan with a QR code to interact with.
The heart and soul behind this whole vibrant operation? The one and only Miss Shaun Ashman, or as everyone affectionately called her, Lady Ash. And when I heard she hosted “palette parties”… well, my curiosity was officially piqued. Now, I’m not gonna lie, my artistic talent usually extended to drawing stick figures that looked like they’d had a rough night. So, the thought of painting? A little daunting. But hey, adventure called, even if it involved a paintbrush!

Stepping into the room, I was instantly hit with those good, good vibes. Beres Hammond was playing softly in the background, setting that perfect, laid-back Jamaican mood. Lady Ash herself was like sunshine in human form – warm, patient, and let me tell you, she had a joke for every occasion. Seriously, she made the whole experience so relaxed and fun.
Canvases, paints, and a master painting to inspire my hilarious attempt – I was ready! Lady Ash guided me step-by-step, patiently showing me how to make something that vaguely resembled the original. And surprisingly, even for a painting dunce like me, it was incredibly therapeutic. Just getting lost in the colors, following instructions, and trying to make something pretty. There were a few laughs, a few “oops” moments, but mostly just good vibes and creative energy flowing.
So, the big reveal… drum roll, please!

Here was my masterpiece. Alright, be honest now, how did I do?
Lady Ash truly had a knack for bringing out the artist in everyone, even those who thought they didn’t have a creative bone in their body.
Seriously though, this palette party at The Art of Motivation was a real highlight. It was the perfect chance to try something totally new, unleash my inner artist (even if she had been hiding under a rock for years!), and connect with some fantastic people in a fun and super supportive environment.
