Heritage Debate: Should Jamaican Patois be an Official Language?

Join the National Museum Jamaica and The Institute of Jamaica for a timely and engaging Heritage Debate on Friday, October 3, 2025, at 9:00 a.m.

The event, hosted by Professor Sonjah Stanley Niaah of UWI, will feature talented student debaters from Holy Trinity High and Pembroke Hall High as they tackle the powerful question: “Should Jamaican Patois be considered an official language?”

The debate will be held at the Lecture Hall, The Institute of Jamaica at 10-16 East Street, and will also be available for live streaming on the National Museum Jamaica’s YouTube channel. This is an important discussion you won’t want to miss.
